YADI – Youth Addressing Diverse Issues
The group meets once a fortnight after school in a safe and comfortable
venue.
Banksia Gardens Community Centre provides young people with:
- A safe space in which to share and explore their experiences among other young people questioning their sexuality.
- An opportunity to enhance their personal development, self-esteem and resilience.
- Support to enhance their connectedness to school, family, peers and the community by exploring strategies to deal with homophobia, bullying and rejection.
- An opportunity to discuss relevant issues and how these impact on their life, particularly risk taking or self harming behaviour, coming out, safe sex, and rejection and acceptance by family, friends, peers and the broader community.
- An opportunity to gain information, support, linkages and referrals when relevant.
- Community outings and recreational activities as decided upon by participants.
