Duration: Full-time or part-time.

Students enrolled in the program progress through the Certificate levels as part of their studies. Upon successful completion of appropriate competency standards students may exit at any Certificate level. Classes are normally held during the day. Work experience is a part of the program.
These programs are also offered as Traineeships.

Career Prospects
People employed in the administration area usually assist professionals, managers and executives by providing a range of administrative and clerical services.
After industry experience has been gained, graduates of the Diploma of Business Administration may occupy the following positions: secretary; administrative assistant; personal assistant; receptionist; office supervisor; and personal administrator.

CERTIFICATE II IN BUSINESS

Course overview
If you want your ‘foot in the door’ into an office or other business career, this course will give you the basic administrative and computer skills expected of clerical workers. When you graduate, you qualify for enrolment in the next step up, the Certificate III in Business Administration.

What employment opportunities will I have?
The Certificate II in Business course will give you entry-level office skills. Your first job should be at the level of general clerical assistant. You can then consider applying for a traineeship under the New Apprenticeship Scheme. This will help you complete the higher qualification of the Certificate III in Business Administration, by studying on-the-job.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?
This course will give you a good understanding of the business procedure s of a modern office. You will learn a range of basic office skills – keyboarding, word processing and other aspects of computers, customer relation skills, and telephone techniques.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Graduates of this course are able to enroll in the more advanced Diploma of Business Administration.

Can I apply?
You can apply if you are unemployed; if you are employed and want to switch jobs to office work; or if you have worked in offices before and want to retrain or update your skills.

 

How will I be selected for this course?
All applicants will need to do a comprehension test and be interviewed by our teachers to assess your basic literacy and numeracy skills and suitability for the course. Opportunities of employment in this area generally require normal vision and manual dexterity.

How long is the course?
Students attend classes for four terms.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment of your skills and knowledge might include – written work, projects, finished products, case studies, demonstrations, assignments and/or tests.

You will be informed in advance about the kind of assessment you will have, and how and when it will be done. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment. You will be given this information.

The Certificate III in Business Administration is designed to give you the office and computer skills you will need as an administrative assistant. Graduates of this course have the chance to improve their employability by continuing to the Certificate IV in Business Administration.

What employment opportunities will I have?
Graduates of this course will have an intermediate level of office, clerical and technology skills. You can expect to find work as a skilled office worker. You could also consider becoming a trainee under the New
Apprenticeship Scheme and complete the Certificate IV in Business Administration on-the-job.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?
You will learn the business procedures needed in a modern office in this course, as well as develop an understanding of enterprises, quality teams, customer service, word processing, Computer applications skills and document presentation.
