What employment opportunities will I have?
This course can open the door for you to the retail industry, at a level where you could expect to work with clearly defined tasks and under supervision. You will feel confident about applying for entry level positions in retail.

What skills will I have when I complete this course?
Graduates will have learnt the basic skills for helping customers, doing stock control, operating point of sale equipment, balancing the register and minimizing theft.

What opportunities for further studies will I have?
Graduates can continue studies for several higher qualifications, such as the Certificate III in Retail Operations, the Certificate III in Retail Supervision, The Certificate IV in Retail Management and the Diploma of Retail Management.

Can I apply?
Applicants should show a mature attitude towards work.
Some may have already worked in a customer service industry.

How will I be selected for this course?
After submitting your application form you will be asked to attend a short enrolment interview and sit for a language, literacy and numeracy test. This will be level 2 of the national reporting system.

How long is the course?
The program is delivered over a period of 20 weeks. Or you can study by flexible delivery if you are juggling part-time work or parenting.

How will I be assessed in this course?
You will be assessed in several ways, by demonstrations, written work, projects, and simulated assessments in the retail shop, work placement log books and third party reports.

Assessment is a necessary part of this program to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge set out in the competency standards.

You will be informed in advance about the assessment procedure and criteria. There will also be opportunity for appeal and reassessment and you will be provided with this information.

What will I study?
Certificate II in Retail comprises 14 units. The competency units for this qualification include tutorials, assessment, work placement and on the job assessment. The units of competency have been organised into three programs:

Floristry

Floristry provides training that gives participants the skills necessary to enter the Floristry industry. A sound basis in practical floristry skills will be developed along with the essential underpinning knowledge such as plant identification, care of stock, retail and customer service communications.

There is a strong focus on the development of practical skills in contemporary techniques in floristry. Students are actively encouraged to participate in floral competitions.
